How do you recognise field forget-me-not?
Field forget-me-not grows 10–40 cm tall with pale green, oval leaves. The flowers are only 3–4 mm across. In bud they are pink, and open they are a bright pale blue with a yellow ring at the centre.
What is it confused with?
Water forget-me-not has larger flowers and grows on wet shores and in ditches. Field forget-me-not prefers drier, more open ground.
Where does field forget-me-not grow, and when does it flower?
Grows in bright places such as fields, roadsides, and gardens. Flowering is long, running from June to September.
Can you collect it for a herbarium?
Field forget-me-not is common in fields and roadsides and may be collected freely.
Did you know?
The bud is pink and turns blue as it opens, so one cluster often shows both colours at once. The change comes from a shift in the acidity of the sap inside the flower.
