The short version
Linnea has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. Your herbarium lives on your phone. Photos are sent off the device only to identify a plant or when you choose to share your collection, and your exact location never leaves your phone at all.
What stays on your device
- Your photos and the specimens made from them.
- Your collection, notes, and settings.
- The precise place where you found each plant. It powers the map inside the app and is never included in anything you share or export. Anything that leaves the device carries the name of the municipality only.
What leaves your device, and when
Identifying a plant. When you ask Linnea to check a plant, the photo is sent to our server, which passes it to plant identification and AI services to produce the identification and the short texts about the plant. The photo is used to answer that request and is not kept on our server.
Finding the town name. When a plant is saved, the app looks up the name of the municipality from approximate coordinates so your specimen can carry a town stamp. Only the town name is stored with anything you share.
Sharing your herbarium. Sharing is always your choice. A shared page contains what you see in the preview: the photos and specimens you selected, plant names, municipality names, dates, and the first name and class you typed in, if any. Anyone with the link can open a shared page. You can ask us to remove one at any time by writing to elina.patjas@interlinear.tech.
What we do not do
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No advertising and no third-party analytics trackers.
- No selling of data, and no use of your photos to train AI models.
Children
Linnea is made for plant lovers of any age. Its data-minimal design also makes it safe for children to use, for example for a school herbarium. The app never asks for contact details, and nothing is published without the deliberate choice to share.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it. Deleting the app deletes your herbarium. For shared pages, you can request removal at any time. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can also contact us about access, correction, or erasure of any data we hold, and you have the right to complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the change will be visible on this page with a new date at the top.
