How do you recognise round-leaved wintergreen?
The leaves are 1–5 cm long, thickish, smooth, and roundish, forming a rosette at ground level. The white or greenish-white flowers nod, and the reddish style projects clearly from each one.
What is it confused with?
Serrated wintergreen carries all its flowers on one side of the stem and they are greener. On this species the flowers circle the stem.
Where does round-leaved wintergreen grow, and when does it flower?
Found in mesic and herb-rich heath forest, groves, lush spruce mires, rich fens, and on fell meadows and heaths. Flowering runs from June to August.
Can you collect it for a herbarium?
Round-leaved wintergreen is fairly common, and one flowering shoot is enough. Careful. Do not taste this plant.

Wintergreens keep their leaves through the winter, so the rosette stays green under the snow. The long projecting style is the easiest mark of the genus.
